WELCOME TO THE NANO4DRUGS WEBSITE
|

Welcome to the Nano4Drugs website. This site aims
to take a proactive role by informing citizens, health professionals
and European scientists about Nano4Drugs’s research activities in
the field of Protein-based Drug Delivery to intracellular compartments
. Nano4Drugs is a Specific Targeted Research Projects (STREP) funded in
Applied Genomics and Biotechnology within the EC FP6 program.

| CHALLENGE OF THE PROJECT |
|
Advances in genomics have resulted in the
development of new protein-based drugs. This trend will increase in the
next decade. Delivery technologies for these drugs must be designed to
surmount biochemical and anatomical barriers to safely permit their
passage to an intended site.
The objective of this project is to develop an innovative specialised
protein-based drug-delivery system engineered to allow the
intracellular tracking of both the device and the coupled drug.
This system, beyond its putative usefulness as a delivery device will
help us to extend our fundamental knowledge about the inter- and
intracellular transport routes undertaken by protein-based drugs, a
critical step to leverage new drug development.
